우주의 심정
The Statue of Universe



거기에서 더 나아가 우리가 궁극적으로 가고자 하는 상태는 타인의 입장,
내 입장 이렇게 상반된 입장이 아니라 하늘에서 바라보는 입장입니다.
우주의 심정이 되면 ‘좋고 나쁘고’ 가 없습니다.
그러면 공정하게 양쪽을 다 내려다볼 수 있습니다.
If we move on from here, ultimately the direction we have to go in
is not holding opposing opinions “my view, your view”
but looking from the view of heaven.
If you come to see from the universe’s emotional level, that is,
where there’s “no good, no evil” then you can see everything from both sides.




저 사람은 저게 옳은 거고 나는 이게 옳은 것입니다.
저 사람이 옳기 때문에 받아들이고 그르기 때문에 배척하는 게 아닙니다.
내 방식과 다르므로 나는 그렇게 안 할 뿐입니다.
That’s right for that person, and this is right for me.
As that’s right for him, just accept it, and as it’s not right for you,
there’s no reason to be in opposition to him.
It’s simply your way of thinking is different,
so you don’t act or think in that way.




마치 바다와 같은 마음입니다.
강물은 물줄기가 있고 계보가 있습니다.
한강이라고 하면 그 부류의 사람들끼리 서로 통하고
다른 물줄기 예를 들면 낙동강이라는 부류의 사람들은 그 부류끼리 서로 통합니다.
한강하고는 어쩐지 수온도 다르고 이질감이 있습니다.
그래서 끼리끼리 모여서 삽니다.
It’s exactly the same mind as the sea.
A river has a small stream and a root line.
For example, the Han River the division connects
with other rivers but the Nakdong River, for example,
that division connects only within the same division.
However, as its temperature is different from the Han River, it’s separate.




그런데 그것이 흘러 흘러 바다까지 가면 한강에서 흘러왔는지
낙동강에서 흘러왔는지 따지지 않습니다. 너와 내가 없어집니다.
다 같이 바닷물이므로 시원을 따지지 않습니다.
However, once the water flows meet at the sea,
they are not broken down into which water came from the Nakdong and
which water from the Han. The distinction you and I disappears.
They are sea water and are not further classified.




바닷물은 다 받아들입니다.
너는 공장폐수니까 싫다. 너는 한강물이라서 싫다.
난 낙동강물만 받겠다. 이런 편견이 없어집니다.
맑은 물이든 흐린 물이든 바다까지 흘러 들어온 인연을 높이 사는 겁니다.
Sea water accepts everything. Your factory waster, I hate you!
Your Han river, I hate you! I will only receive Nakdong river water!
This kind of prejudice disappears.
Whether it’s pure water or polluted water,
they all have a high karmic relationship to reach the sea.




물줄기 하나가 어찌 어찌해서 참 어려운 과정을 거쳐,
땅속으로 스며들 수도 있고 아예 자취도 없이 사라질 수도 있었는데,
끊임없이 힘을 내서 물줄기를 이루고, 강을 이루고
끝내 바다까지 흘러온 인연을 소중하게 생각해서 다 받아들입니다.
The stream goes through a tremendously difficult journey and
may remain buried in the earth or may disappear without a trace.
But if it pushes on constantly it turns into a stream, into a river
and if it thinks importantly about its karma it will reach the sea.
All are welcomed without distinction.




끊임없이 폭풍이라든가 해일이라든가 파도를 통해서 자체 정화작용을 하면서
바다는 누구를 탓하지 않습니다. 그런 상태가 바로 우주의 상태이고 마음이 열린 상태입니다.
If through sea waves it purifies itself endlessly, whether is a storm or a tidal wave,
the sea doesn’t discriminate. This is exactly the state of the universe
and state of an open heart.




네가 다른 사람을 바라볼 때 이해는 하되 “싫다, 좋다” 분별이 있다면
“나의 상태가 아직 바다의 경지는 아니구나”하면 됩니다.
그렇다고 뭐 아쉬워할 것도 없고 싫은데도 좋은 척 할 필요도 없습니다.
솔직하되, 그래도 노력은 해야겠지요.
When you look at others, just come to understand them
but if you still divide things into “that’s good, that’s bad”, then simply tell yourself:
“I’m not yet at the stage of the sea.” If that’s the case, don’t be ashamed.
There’s no reason to pretend you like something when you really dislike it.
Be honest. But you have to try your best.




“계속하다 보면 끝내는 바다까지 가겠구나”하면서 그 단계를 인정하고,
이해하도록 노력하는 것이 “마음이 열렸다”하는 상태입니다.
Say to yourself, “If I keep trying, I will finally become like the sea.”
Accept the place you’re at now and then try to reach to the point
where you can say, “I’ve now opened my mind to others.”
