하느님의 다양한 모습
Various forms of God



톨스토이의 작품에 다음과 같은 내용이 있습니다.
[하나님께 그 모습을 한번만 보여 달라고 매일 기도 드린 사내가 있었습니다.
모습을 보여주셔야만 더 잘 믿을 수 있겠다고 했습니다.
그러던 어느 날 하느님은 오늘 네게 내 모습을 보여주겠다고 하셨지요.
너무 기쁜 사내는 정성 들여 준비를 끝내고 하루 종일 기다렸으나
하느님은 좀처럼 나타나주지 않으셨습니다.
In one of his works, Tolstoy wrote as follows;
[There was a man who prayed everyday to ask God to appear before him once.
He said that he would believe in Him better if only he saw Him.
One day, God told him that He would show him His form.
The man was so happy that he devoted himself to getting ready to meet Him and
waited for Him to appear all day long. But He seldom showed Himself.




눈 빠지게 하느님을 기다리는 동안 한 명의 거지가 동냥을 구걸했으나 쫓아 보냈고,
한 명의 소녀가 성냥을 팔아달라고 문을 두드렸으나 거절했고,
한 명의 술주정뱅이가 집 앞 벤치에서 고래고래 소리를 지르며 누워있기에
오늘 귀한 손님이 오시니까 제발 꺼져달라면서 호통을 쳐 쫓아버린 일이 있었지요.
While he was waiting eagerly for God, a beggar begged him for bread.
He drove him away. A girl knocked on his door to sell some matches
but he refused to buy them.
A drunkard lay on a bench in front of the house shouting out
and he yelled him away asking him to get away
because a very important guest would come.




밤이 되어도 나타나주지 않으시는 하느님을 원망하며 사내는 울부짖었습니다.
왜 제게 거짓말을 하셨느냐고요.
The man cried out, reproaching God for not appearing even at night.
Why did You lie to me?




하느님은 대답하셨습니다.
아들아! 왜 나를 원망하느냐?
나는 오늘 네게 세 번이나 임했으나 네가 나를 알아보지 못하고 박정하게 쫓아내었다.
나는 몹시 슬프구나!]
God answered.
My son! Why do you reproach me?
Today I showed Myself before you three times
but you did not recognize me and drove Me away cold heartedly.
I am very sad!]




조물주님에 대해 설명할 때면 저는 이 이야기를 많이 인용합니다.
무엇보다도 그 표현이 참 좋기 때문입니다.
조물주님은 반드시 귀하고 그럴 듯한 모습만은 아니라는 것이지요.
평범한 사람의 모습으로도 나타날 수 있고,
나이 어린 사람의 모습으로도 나타날 수 있습니다.
I often quote this story when I talk about the Creator.
For the description is wonderful above all.
The Creator is not necessarily in a noble and good form.
He may show Himself in the form of a common person
or in the form of a young person.



인간의 가장 귀한 보물은?
The most precious treasure of human beings?




이 씨앗을 신성이라고 합니다.
인간에게 부여된, 조물주님처럼 완벽해질 수 있는 자질이지요.
This seed is called divinity.
It is a natural disposition which is given to human beings
and can make them as perfect as the Creator.




이런 얘기가 있습니다.
하느님께서 인간에게 가장 귀한 보물을 주려고 하셨답니다.
원래는 그냥 주려고 하셨는데 보니까 인간들이 너무 말썽을 일으키고 괘씸하더래 요.
There is a story.
God wanted to give the most precious treasure to human beings.
At first, He intended to give it as it was,
but He found that human beings had made too many troubles
and He held them culpable.




그래서 그 보물을 어딘가 찾을 수 없는 곳에 숨겨 놓으셨는데 바로 인간의 마음속이었습니다.
사람들은 마음을 들여다보지 않기 때문에 이건 절대로 찾을 수 없을 것이다.
마음을 들여다보는 사람만 찾아라, 하고 그 귀한 보물을 마음속에 숨겨놓으셨답니다.
그 보물이 곧 신성입니다.
Therefore, He hid the treasure at some place which humans cannot find,
that is, inside the human mind.
He hid the precious treasure in the mind thinking that
since people do not look into their mind, they cannot find it at all
and that only those who look into their mind will find it.
The treasure is the very divinity.




어떤 대단한 신도, 조물주님조차도 인간의 마음을 좌지우지할 수는 없는 것은
각자의 내부에 잠재되어 있은 신성 때문입니다.
조물주님이 인간을 마음대로 하시지 못합니다.
부모가 자기 아이들을 마음대로 하지 못하는 것과 같습니다.
인간은 다 의사가 있습니다. 어린 아이조차도 자기 의사가 있습니다.
이렇게 저렇게 하기를 바랄 수는 있지만 남을 조정할 수는 없습니다.
The reason why even any great Gods or the Creator cannot control the human mind
in any way is because of the divinity which lies latent inside each being.
The Creator cannot control human beings at His will.
It is like parents cannot control their children as the way they want.
Each human being has one’s own will. Even a young child has his own will.
You may hope others to do this or that, however you cannot control them.




인간은 자기 마음에 있는 신성이 밝혀져야만 조물주님의 뜻을 따르게 됩니다.
신성을 밝히기 전에는 조물주님이 와도, 수백 명의 신들이 와도 안 되는 것입니다.
신성이 변화되어 스스로 알아서 하기 전에는 삼천포로 빠지는 인간을 어쩌지 못합니다.
바라볼 뿐이지요. 저 또한 “이렇게 신성을 밝혀라”하고 방법을 알려드릴 뿐입니다.
Human beings can follow the intention of the Creator
only when their divinity is revealed.
